Blue quill emerger size #18. I have caught more fish on this fly than any other during the early season. Wing is a tuft of muskrat under fur. This year, I added a partridge soft hackle for comparison.

Yes, I’ve fished it. If you look closely, you can see some parachute Purple Haze’s here that I tied together with the more traditional grey bodied parachute Adams. I haven’t had any more luck with the purple bodies than with grey bodies, except maybe in low light, fall days, so I primarily stick with the grey ones.

I was sitting at the vise this afternoon thinking about carp. So I decided to spin up one of my most productive carp patterns over many seasons. It’s Jack Gartside’s sparrow nymph tied in carp fly style. All natural materials with lots of contrast and movement (no flash or glue of any kind on this pattern). My experience is if I can get this fly down into the silt in front of an actively feeding carp and the fish doesn’t know I’m there it will more often than not eat it! The fly is also tied on one of my most favorite carp hooks - a size 6 Daiichi 1530. Tight lines and screamin’ reels - Carpers!
