Thanks I'm trying to decide on a few others if the are full fly shops. Some places seem to barely provide fly fishing products or are really focused on another part of their business.
Another place that may need further investigation is Angler’s Pro Shop in Souderton.

I have not been IN the store in a while, but the last time I stopped by it was more about conventional tackle than the fly shop it used to be under previous ownership.

I hate to say it this way but there are more lousy fly shops than good ones and even then, with all of the product choices & brands available today, I guess any shop could be described as lousy if they don’t sell the brands you like…

I guess that why I hardly ever venture into any of them anymore. ;)
E. Hille- Angler's Supply House is permanently closed

The Sporting Gentleman in Media is permanently closed or 99% closed

I believe Clouser’s is strictly Internet/mail order so maybe just a web address?

French Creek Outfitters is permanently closed

Little Lehigh Fly Shop is permanently closed

Dunkelberger’s has a 2nd location @

I don’t think Dave's Sporting Center in Doylestown is a fly shop.
Dave's in Doylestown def has a fly shop on the premises, just attached to the main shop. It may be worth checking to see if Angler in Souderton is still a fly shop. The wife and a new partner took over, gearing towards bass fishermen the last I was in and just selling off the fly stuff. That was a couple years ago, however.
This is a personal thing, but just like having a phone number for a business, a website to me tells me how invested the organization is about being a business. I realize a lot of things can vary, but general XYZ business that dabbles in fly fishing and uses Facebook for a website doesn't seem very focussed.

Maybe I need to think of the minimum requirements of what they carry in the store, rather than the designated name. A fly shop to me is a business that has a dedicated section for fly fishing offering specialized products related to the sport including: flies, waders, fly rods, fly boxes, fly reels, fishing vests, line, tippet, leader and other associated products.

I'm not trying to overdo this, but there is a big difference in a place like the Feathered Hook and Bill's General store.
Totally, Dave. The place is called Mainstream Outfitters and has both website and FB. It used to be run by Dave's daughter, I believe, spun off from Dave's more bait and tackle oriented store in business for 60+ years.
I've only been inside once or twice but I don't see Whitetail Country Fly Shop and Outfitters in Starlight, PA listed. Address is 6048 Hancock hwy, Starlight PA 18461.

I like old school fly shops. I really liked the original hut on the little Lehigh in PA. Flyfishers Paradise Flyshop is great. Catskill Files when Dennis owned it was my favorite. Jimmy's All Season Angler in Idaho Falls is another great one. Fran Betters place was great too. Bangor, ME has several great old school shops. I liked the Troutfitter in syracuse when I worked there about 10 years ago. The new owners do a good job too.

More commercial shops like TCO, Whitetail, the shop at West Branch Angler, etc. I can kind of take or leave.

To me, a good fly shop is somewhere I want to go when I drive by even if don't need anything. In Bangor and at the Troutfitter, I'd come in to bullshit and bring 10 or 20 bucks worth of items to the counter and I'd have the owners tell me put it back you don't need to buy something everytime you come in.
Joe Rist owns Catskill Flies in Roscoe. It is called Trout Town Flies (closed for winter). He is a real good guy (worked for Dennis). It is a nice shop. Whitetail Country was Bought by Joe D and is closed until probably sometime in late March. I hear ya. I'm old school myself.
The International Angler store on Freeport Rd is long gone.
They just have the one big shop on Steubenville Pike now.

There is also an Orvis store located in the south hills area of Pittsburgh.
But they have a rather small selection of fly fishing gear there. It seems more oriented to apparel.
However, if they don't have something you want in stock, they'll have it sent to your home.

There's Orvis stores in Lanacaster, Downingtown, and somewhere around KOP too. Wasn't thinking he wanted corporate stores, else you could include Cabelas and Bass Pro too.
Ron's Flies 570-942-6333
716 SR 92
Nicholson, PA 18446

I can confidentially give Ron my strongest possible recommendation. because I am more successful catching trout, than with any other brand. He has served me well for over 25 years.

I thought the owners of Whitetail Country bought out Joe D's guide service > Cross Current Guide Service. Are you sure Joe D now owns the shop and not the opposite?
As of last year (Oct) my understanding is that Joe D bought the shop from the owners. Joe D was the only person working the shop late last year as the shop manager Patrick took a job at Dettes. Cross Current is a separate entity. I really don't shop there too much after the previous shop mgrs Frank and Dave left. Dave is working at Tightlines in NJ. I will find out and if my info is not correct I will pass it along. I know a lot of people up there but I am not nosey and don't keep track of everybody's business.

For sure I will know come fishing season as I fish up there 50+ times a year.
