I would not be so sure about that; guess it depends on what everyone thinks 'high-end' is?

This is a Rodmaker 24/7 fast glass 7'6". It has a sweet action. Its under $100, so not what I consider high-end, but then again, I am a conossieur of chuck-eye and chicken steaks. 7 kids and a stay at home mom/wife level set what someone considers 'high-end' LOL Its all good. I made my bed and I sleep in it!

I got that one at a discount on their ebay store. And yes, I could have gotten the same deal in a different color! LOL

Would not hurt to ask Shane at Rodmaker or Matt at Proof, they might be up for it?

Agree with you Joe....I don't need a $300-$500 blank to have a great rod. In my mind, it's the wizard not the wand.

I built a glass 7'6 Rodmaker247 blank this winter. I like it a lot!!!

Also built rods from GB (out of business) but now see a new vendor with some good offerings at good prices https://virgilrodcompany.com. Might pick up a few blanks for next winter from these guys. Could this be a source for the group project??

You most likely will not find a HIGH end rod company willing to give a discount on a couple of blanks. Shane might. Not sure why he would give a discount for a couple of blanks.

Based on the discussion, I was figuring on a dozen or more blanks; sorta like a 'club' or 'class' discount I have seen offered with other stuff; but anyways. And no, probably not handrolled blanks.

You know my feelings on Gulf colours. Also, unlike Shane I won't point out your baffling and incorrect use of single foot guides like some sort of common spinfisher. No, you're free to make whatever aesthetic mistakes you want, Joe. Free to make all the wrong choices, pal!

To actually answer this: Maybe, but with effort and trust.

You have to reach out to a vendor and say, "hey, how many of these do I have to order to get a bulk rate?" If they're willing, then it's on someone to organize it. Everyone has to trust to send that person with the money, if the meet is minimum requirement the order is put in, the organizer receives the product and then ships them to the buyers. basically, they sit in the middle and do final purchase, receiving and distribution.

the reason the vendor would agree is it's one big sale for them, so they're willing to take a couple percentage points off by bypassing the risk and hassle of sending out a dozen individual orders.

It requires a willing vendor and a willing organizer whose willing to deal with the logistics and people to trust that organizer to hold their money and do their side of the deal.

So, the origin story-

Back in 2009, during a caffeine-sugar-laced all nighter at work, preparing for a demo the next day with an Army customer, at approximately 2am (mind you, the demo was scheduled for 10am later THAT day, and at 2am NOTHING still worked on our prototype), my Team of engineers decided we all needed 'wrestler' names, and we should wrestle as a study break. I think my olive complexion had something to do with it, but 'CinnamonJoe' was born. I gave up trying to shake it off back in 2017. Some other names that came out of that disaster that also 'stuck': 'HandsomeTim', 'BoisterousBohemian'.

CinnamonJoe made it through the 1st two rounds of the early morning wrestling tournament that nite in the engineering lab. Afterwards, through some miracle, we got the stupid widget to work by 7am. Most of us (but not all) had time to run home and bathe ahead of our meetings with the Army brass.

No anonymity here; my bio pic is me, albeit a couple years old. Oh, I dig Neil Young, too.

As for the single-foot guides, I hear you. I've never messed with them before this rod; they are something that has piqued my curiosity over the years, and I decided that I finally needed to give them a try to decide on if they offered me anything: functionally or aesthetically.

Over a year ago, I had a quick phone conversation about this topic with Ron at H&H, in the context of assembling rods for a charity like Project Healing Waters, Casting for a Cure, etc. At the time he was willing to provide a "special price" for single kits, but I got busy with other things and didn't pursue it any further. I expect a vendor would be able to deduct a tax percentage if the final product goes to a non-profit.
