Wrap Color Ideas for a Blue Blank?

I’m not sure what you mean by the first statement - I stated the fact that that the complimentary (an art term) colors are opposite on the color wheel - anyone can use any color they want - I just happen to like complimentary colors from time to time - and with a cool rod blank color, a complimentary color would look visually appealing

But another choice would be to go with something that tones things down a little. You could use a much darker tone of the same color, i.e. a dark cyan if that's available. Dark blue as shown above is close enough and looks good IMHO.

Gray is neutral and would also be a good choice, but I think it would be good to use a darker gray than shown above, closer to charcoal gray.

To draw attention to a beautiful finished rod was the reason I suggested complimentary colors - that blank against a bluebird sky has its own natural camo properties - I’m pretty sure whatever colors CJoe decides on will make a great looking rod and probably won’t spook fish

I’m not arguing or disagreeing with anything you or anybody else said. I was just pointing out to the non artists who may not know the art definition of compliment, the fact that colors do not have to be across from each other on the color wheel to look good together. No offense was meant.

Then they're not complementary colours, because the text book defination is directly opposite.

If they are simply adjacent to across, they are "near complementary." You also see "split complementary" where both sides of the true complementary colour are used.

Adjacent colours are next to the mother colour, which in this case is a seaglass green. Analogous are ones in the direct group.

None taken - I was in a kind of defensive posture yesterday from an unrelated event - sorry if I was a bit snappy
 
So, it begins. These are some prelim test wraps on the blank-no finish-and done hastily at that! LOL

Depending on whether I use varnish or epoxy-and what/if CP I use, these will obviously not look exactly like this, but it gives a very rough idea. I had these threads on hand; going to order a few more different colors to evaluate. Opinions on these 4 welcomed.

I hear ya on the blank color; it was got via an unsolicited seller offer on ebay, that was too good to pass up; that, and I was also curious about the action of some of his glass blanks. The action is really sweet/interesting. I think its going to be a fun rod, anyways; if I can pick a wrap color & get off my arse & finish it. LOL

I was all over the map this week on finalizing wrap colors, trying to narrow it down ahead of getting some thread on order with the rest of my supplies to finish it out. During that process, it was becoming obvious this blue blank was going to be more challenging in picking guide wrap colors than I originally thought several weeks ago. So, I decided I would at least make test wraps on it this evening with what thread I had, as a proactive way to break the impasse and provide therapy after a couple tough weeks with work and one of my kids!

FWIW, my wife vetoed all those, except the light cream silk with the gold tinsel, 2nd from the green going right to left; which I also like the best of those 4.

Here is this actual blank in a build:

I don't think I would copy it exactly, but those colors don't look bad to me either.

That's actually not that bad looking, but I still probably wouldn't choose that. If you want to go with a darker wrap, I believe Mud Hole has some dark blue-gray colors of Pro Wrap that might have a similar light on dark affect while not being so... pukey?

FWIW, I've been using Fuji polyester rod wrapping thread recently and it is very good stuff. It's superior to all the nylon threads on the market right now IMO.
Fuji 025 Bracket Blue might darken nicely and look good with a thin trim of red (or some other color).

I’m not a fan of anything shown and if I am to be totally honest, The colors on the blank being built aren’t much better. Instead of a forest green how about a mint or Kelly green? I wonder what cream would look like? I’m glad it’s not my decision.
 
I just ordered 8 different colored spools of thread. We might have fun with this: set up a poll and let you guys vote on wrap colors.
