What Are You Tying Today? 2026

Care to share the pattern? Really nice baetis.
Thank you! No problem
Use any standard #18 1x or 2xl nymph hook of your choice. I tie both.
Legs and tail are wood duck flank
After you tie in the tails, build a slight thread taper to the abdomen to just past where the wing case is tied in so the vinyl follows suit.
Wingcase is treated Canada goose quill.
The 18/0 nano silk thread is what makes this pattern easy. You could get away with 12/0 as well but good luck with 8/0 LOL 😉
Rest is in the pic 👍
Honestly you could probably get away with ANY darker olive or olive brown dubbing.....in reality there's so little of it, its not critical to match it exactly.
It just makes me feel warm and fuzzy that it's olive and a touch buggy even though it's dubbed pretty tight.
I'm pretty sure the size, profile, translucent abdomen with contrasting wing case carry the pattern....probably doesn't even need tails or legs but they look pretty. 😂

Treated goose quill? I assume some kind of flexible glue to make it more durable?

Correct..... Dave's Flexament is probably best. Treat the backside of the feather lightly with a brush.
Keeps the individual fibers from splitting apart.
You can do the same with wild turkey tail flats for March brown nymphs or hares ears.
