Very nice tie! I am a sucker for these old patterns because that’s what my grandfather taught me to tie. Interestingly enough, I can remember him telling me that some people tie the wing in front of the hackle and some tie it in front of the hackle. I never tied it behind the hackle because that’s not what pap wanted in his fly box but looks good. Let’s be real, the only reason pap pushed me to start tying flies and fly fishing is because his eyes were getting bad and he needed someone to lock arms with in deep water when wading. 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Either way, I’m glad he did.

I tied them both ways and just kind of liked the look of the tie better with the hackle tied in front of the wing. Sounds like you had a great relationship with your grandfather - that’s really cool!
