Here is a variation of the Prince Nymph from Blue Ribbon Flies:

“Too many times when a classic pattern is changed we find it not as good as the original. This is not the case with The Fly Formerly Known As Prince. Adding the mylar flash has produced an incredible fish catcher.”​

A very good friend of mine in Montana, who was also an experienced Atlantic salmon fisherman, showed me how he fished large Prince Nymphs for trout much like one would fish for for salmon, with long casts quartering downstream, and letting the fly swing until it was directly below him. He held his rod low to the water, and constantly raised and lowered his rod tip to lift the fly, much like a real insect might do as it was hatching. He and I spent many evenings fishing those large Prince Nymphs that way together, and catching an equal number of large trout.

I've had ADD at the vise recently. Today I tied a mouse, Salmonflies, Grannoms, Hendricksons, hare's ears, and lastly this partridge and pheasant tail. I only seem to be able to tie two or three of each before moving on.

Size 6 for Smallies. I'd love to get these in the water if the Susquehanna ever gets above 4 ft. It's a spinning game when it's low. Had six smallies spinning in early January before the polar vortex hit.
