The Annual Paflyfish Spring Jamboree is set for May 19-21, 2023

Friday, May 19 is the start of our meetup for the Paflyfish Spring Jamboree Weekend at the Seven Mountains Campground. This is our annual get-together for members of the site to fly fish, tie flies, camp, and share a few stories. We have a lot of fun fishing over some of Pennsylvania's finest streams including the Little J, Penns Creek, Spring Creek, Fishing Creek, and plenty more in the region.

The pavilion at Seven Mountains Campground is rented by Paflyfish and is used as a meeting point during the weekend. Plenty of impromptu conversations, fly-tying, and meet-ups occur at the pavilion.

The weekend is a casual event with fly fishing in a great region of Pennsylvania. As with every year, we will be meeting up in the evenings at the pavilion to catch up on the day's fishing trips. Friday and Saturday mornings we meet for coffee and plan the day. Often plenty of opportunities for some fly tying and casting lessons are shared.

At this time, we will not be going to plan any special speakers or activities. That could change, but there is always plenty of impromptu fly tying, casting lessons, and support on where to fish. So if you are unsure about the area, do not worry there are plenty of members from the site that can help get you started.

FYI, I just canceled an efficiency cabin as other plans were made. Might be something there today that wasn't there yesterday.

so do people break off and fish together at this event?
Absolutely. Don't be shy.

Generally people are comin and goin throughout the day. It's not real reliable to show up at 2 p.m. or something and find someone, but you might. Everyone and their mother is out fishing in the evening, campground will be dead. Most stay on the water till a few minutes after dark, but they might be a half hour walk and then a 40 minute drive away. So if there aren't a lot of people around at 10 p.m., don't think it's a bust, from 10:30-11:30 the crowd will steadily grow. Whether at the pavilion or somewhere else, a group will form somewhere, everyone will drink, tell stories, joke around. Not hard to figure out where the group is. Come introduce yourself and make it known you're looking for a group to fish with. This is where many plans are made for the following day.

If you can't be there the night before, come early morning and hang out. Some get up early, many sleep in. So one by one groups will get around and go somewhere. Most will already have plans made, but, most will also be happy to add a +1.

I have never attended a jamboree and was wondering if there are any local motels? My tent camping days are long over. Thanks, Matt

Plenty of hotels in State College, but that's about 20 minutes away. The closest is Best Western in Milroy, and there's a Holiday Inn Express in Reedsville. But honestly, you can get your own cabin in the campground in the same price range. The campground is mostly about renting cabins, not tent camping. And you can read the descriptions, but a lot of them have their own bathrooms, showers, etc., depending what you wanna pay. I never saw the point of doing an outside hotel, it gives you lesser accomodations per dollar and takes you away from the point of the jam, which is to socialize with other board members.

Something to be said for staying within rolling, limping, stumbling or floating (depending on your chemical adulterant of choice) distance from the campfire.

Thanks to all you fellows for your ideas about lodging and the amenities at the campground. I finally got a call from York Hospital to arrive at 6:00 a.m. to prep for my procedure.

Good luck with your surgery. Hope to meet another Yorker up there. It will be my first Jam as well.

So Friday / Saturday morning are the best best to sync up? I'm thinking of just coming by in the morning and camping out closer to the actual fishing areas. Not much of a night owl...

I actually found the deposit / cancellation policy on the map page....
