I've heard the "100 year" description used too many times in the last decade to put any stock in it.This is 100-year flood type of rain amounts.
I don't think this storm quite got to that level based on the stream gages I checked, so I was wrong to call it that, but your point stands. I studied one storm a few years ago at my previous job where when we plotted the recorded rain vs duration on a chart that included storms up to "1,000-year", it was literally off the chart. 4+" in 25 minutes if I remember correctly.I've heard the "100 year" description used too many times in the last decade to put any stock in it.
I just wish we could get rid of these thunderstorms! 😡It's not been a good year to fly fish for sure.
OTOH....the silver lining is I still have most of my winter ties!
I've even snuck out to toss dry flys on local ponds and lakes. At least the water is calm!!I just wish we could get rid of these thunderstorms! 😡
Localized 6-7" amounts with still another round to go. Widespread 4"+. Stay safe out there! This is 100-year flood type of rain amounts.

This is true, but not this year. Most of the time by this time of year we’re hoping for them.
Dear wildtrout2,This is true, but not this year.
Just wondering, having only ever had a public sewage service line, but having reviewed general septic system and sand mound designs, under these wet circumstances do you have to concern yourself about toilet water having a place to go in your drain field? I assume your comment was really about having a full well/worry-free water supply at the moment. I have had a well to think about and understand the relief of a high water table following a drought.15.02" of rain registered at my personal weather station since May 1, 2025.
I'm flushing toilets with reckless abandon... 🚽
I cannot remember for sure but I think it was either 1996 or 1997 that I shot at Camp Perry with 3” of water on my matt and rain blowing sideways.2004,2011,2018 all wet years in Pennsylvania. Will 2025 finish as another year with above average precipitation ? If so it would be quite a coincidence in those years fall every 7 years.
I recently bought a book on The Allegheny River by Mike Sajna, after reading about him and his books on here a couple weeks ago, and I just finished reading about the 1956 flood in the Allegheny that flooded much of Warren, PA (the 2nd worst flood ever recorded there) that ultimately resulted in the Corps of Engineers building the Kinzua Dam several years later.2004,2011,2018 all wet years in Pennsylvania.
