PFBC FALL AND WINTER TROUT STOCKING TO BEGIN OCTOBER 1!

Dave Kile - thank you for posting the fall stocking information. I appreciate that you aggregate information from other sites into this one. It’s really unfortunate that doing so led to one person coming out of nowhere to highjack this thread and pick a message board fight that never had to happen. I note that the Muddy Creek FFO stocking was pushed back a couple of weeks. Good to know.

Since this thread is completely off the rails, as a once long time and frequent poster here i dont think Tim is totally off on things he is saying.

He is entitled to his opinion too. I dont understand the angst towards him. Can someone explain it?

Of course he's entitled to his opinion, and I think many people on this board and across PA, at least serious trout fishermen, would agree with him.

Things just got a little heated very quickly for a simple post about a stocking schedule. Lambasting folks here doesn't change PA trout stocking. I am neither for or against stocking; I just live in the reality that exists around me, and that doesn't mean that I don't want to see some change across our state, but I also try to play nicely in the sandbox with others.

I enjoy stockers for what they are, and I enjoy catching them at times. I also understand their harm and where and why the cessation of stocking should probably occur. This thread just got a little......crazy.

EDIT: I'd just like to add one more thing: the original post was nothing more than shared information. There was ZERO opinion or comments added. If you are interested by stocked trout, great! The information was provided. If not, then ignore it.

Yeah, yeah I get all that.
I should have been more specific.

There are a good number of posters from the past that dont share like they once did.
The message board evolved. For good or bad, depending on your tastes.

I personally dont think it is what it was from the late 90's to 2000's, probably much like Tim . However I still come here from time to time, more for nostalgia sake than anything. I really dont like Code Red Mt Dew anymore. I did in the 90's and i get it from time to time. Its good for a short stint and then its not.

I probably wouldn't share like I did in the past given the climate of the board. Doesn't mean im miserable or need to one day be happy. I've never been more happy in my life than iam right now.

I just dont get why we are dismissive to his thought and him. I agree with him and even if I didnt I wouldn't think any less of him either or put him on ignore.

Can we not have conflicting opinions anymore?
The world has become strange to me

This site discusses fly fishing in PA. It has a decent amount of users.

One way to run it would be having one ginormous thread where people post whatever they want.

Another way to run it, set up different forums for different topics. Within each forum, have threads to discuss a particular aspect of the forum. topic. You know, organized for clarity.

The site owner and mods have used option 2. They try to keep threads on topic. If ya wanna discuss wild brook trout, go for it and create a thread or add a message to an existing thread about wild brook trout. If you want to discuss stocking fish, go for it - create a thread or reply to a thread that concerns stocking.

Sure, stocking fish and wild brook trout are intertwined, but everything is intertwined. Perhaps a different site chooses option 1...then every message is intertwined....probably hard to find a site like that with one big enormous thread.

I rarely post here. I read almost everyday. The owner and mods aren't being tyrants, or flexing their muscles just because they can. They are simply trying to keep the site organized in a meaningful way.

I appreciate the mods cause many sites like this cease to be because moderating becomes too diffficult.

The fact that this board even still exists is a miracle. Message boards / forums essentially died with the rise of facebook, instagram, twitter and reddit. You just aren't going to get the traffic here that you once had. On top of that, what could possible be shared here at this point that hasn't been thousands of times already? People don't come to forums to learn techniques or to discuss the latest gear and gagets anymore, that is all done on youtube and instagram. What you are gonna get here is discussion about the non sexy side of fly fishing because that isn't as easy to do with videos and pictures (aka, there is no money in it). You get a lot of talk here about localized conservation issues and spot burning because honestly that is all internet forums are good for anymore.

I think Dave and the mod team run a great site and kudos to them and the userbase here for keeping it as active as it is. Anyone longing for the old days probably needs to readjust their expectations for modern times.

The real question is why on earth would anyone spend time reading and posting somewhere they don't enjoy?

I thought I answered that question. Didnt I?

If you think that's all you can do here and what it is for, and you cant learn new techniques here etc...
Ill take that as my point proved.

Its evolved into something inferior to what it was. Still a great site but not nearly as much fun or useful as it was. YMMV

I never said you can or can't do anything here, I'm just saying why it's not as prominent. I've learned the majority of what I know off this site, including many of your old posts.

Sounds like you are now just trying to talk **** about the current userbase. What do you suggest, running them off? Banning them for not reposting tutorials that have been addressed time and time again over the years? Would it help if I posted pictures of every fish I catch? What exactly would make you happy here?

Dude,

You dont need to misrepresent what I said. Im not talking *****<(mines just asterisks I dont swear), about the user base.

Perhaps ask Tim. He said he was willing to share thoughts on how to make it better. Or did you ignore him too?

I have no skin in the game honestly. The site i have been visiting again after a long hiatus because of my work load dwindling. When my officer Training begins next month, ill be gone again.

Im just saying, I get what Tim is driving at.

Yes, we can have conflicting opinions. Those conflicting opinions should be framed in a way that is respectful to other users on the site, and those opinions should be used tactfully and in threads where they are appropriate.

This message board has been great for the thirteen years that I've belonged to it. Honestly, it is where I have met some of my best friends. The majority of the people I talk to in life anymore are folks whom I've met through this website. However, when brook trout shenanigans were happening several years ago, this site was going downhill. Every thread turned into a stocking-bashing, anti-brown trout, save the brookies thread, and the site was, at that point in time, pathetically frustrating and worthless, and I think that was the goal of that group of posters.

Yep, that's my opinion, but I know I'm not the only person who felt that way. I don't think I can handle this site again if it were to turn back into that. That doesn't mean that I don't support or love fishing for brook trout, it just means I want to discuss things that the threads are about.

What exactly is the point of sharing the concerns you have about the state of the board?
