Old, Stale, Negative Thread

Dear hooker-of-men,

I solve the problem by not watching fishing or tying videos. I'll admit that on occasion someone here posts a video that I'll watch, and I will watch tying videos from people I personally know if I am interested in that particular fly or technique. But overall, I'm not interested in watching flat-brimmers going Bragh! with every fish they catch.

But, I'm an old fart. I always did enjoy American Sportsman, Curt Gowdy, Jerry Mc Kinnis, and even the saltwater shows, Mark Sosin, Flip Palot, and Jose Wejebe. I'd also watch the bass fishing shows like Bill Dance, Orlando Wilson, Jimmy Houston and Hank Parker before bass fishing turned in BASSCAR. It was something to do on Winter weekend mornings until it got warm enough to head out and fish. At the same time, they showed interesting places and offered instruction along with the mandatory actual fishing scenes.

Different strokes for different folks!

Never remember Marlin Perkins getting in the thick of things. I do remember him saying many times " I'll stay here in the truck while Jim( Fowler) tries to get that lion in net. Watch it Jim... hes a big male" or usually some thing on those lines.

To his credit he was probably in his 70's during the time of the show

Still...a great show when growing up.

I don't watch television or movies. I like YouTube videos about fly fishing, cooking, and skateboarding, and I like books. Next time, I'll be grouchy about a crappy fishing book to keep things balanced.

My favorite was The Way of a Trout, that they played at a Main Line Fly Tyer's meeting back in the day. The music in that video is still in my memory, very mellow.
And, the narration done by Frederick Hutchinson was something to remember too.

When I lived in the Poconos, I was active in the Brodhead Chapter of TU and was in charge of entertainment (which shouldn't come as a surprise). 😉

Back then it was mostly 16 mm films which were available for rent at no charge through some organization I can't recall. I'd order the films, they ship them to my house and I'd have to send them back.

One in particular I remember was "Tarpon."
 
I'm not saying I've never watched fly tying videos. When I started fly fishing and tying, Tim Flagler helped me learn to tie big time. That's a super cool resource people in the past didn't have, and I like Tim's channel. His tying videos are presented in a classy manner and they're super helpful.
 
Just made a banger of a cheesesteak. Usual shaved ribeye, Cooper, fried onion, SPG. Added mayo and hot pepper relish. I live in Harrisburg, more than 90 mins from Philly, it’s legal here. (I wouldn’t dare do it within that radius.)

Edit: And I had a cap and cheese Primanti’s (York location) for lunch yesterday at work.

Heckuva weekend. Mrs. Swattie making shrimp and cheese grits with Jalaps from the garden tomorrow.

Fromunda cheese probably beats that chemical concoction Cheese Whiz for sure.

White American

Cooper

Pick one, but any other cheese on Earth is inferior.

And yes to sauce! If I ever wanted to cook the ever mother loving crap out of beef I for damned sure ain't eating it dry! The wife likes Mayo on her cheesesteak, but also on fries, but she's from Cow Hampshire so what does she know? 😉

Yes, Tallerico's stuff is good. But I love going to Cow Hampshire and stocking up on Pastene peppers. Same great taste, but bigger jars and cheaper prices!

My daughter’s friend and roommate in Los Angeles was a nanny for Dr.
Rae Wynn Grant. She is a professor at University of California Santa Barbara. They visited her and got a copy of her book signed. A good read of her struggles and ultimate success in doing what she wanted since she was a young girl. She was inspired by watching Wild Kingdom.
