LeTort or Laurel Run?

Hoping to get a quick answer. I'm meeting my friend tomorrow near Carlise, PA. Looking for a stream to hit for a few hours. Looking at the PA trout map has me thinking either the Letort or an hour away to the Frank Masland natural area for brook trout. Never fished either. Which do you think would be our best bet? Thanks!

Never been to the other place. But I can say that if you fish the Letort, you should know what to expect and be prepared for frustrating fishing. Not saying it isn’t worth it for the experience, history and chance at saying you caught a fish from it, but yeah.

Is there a reason it’s either the Letort or driving an hour away? There is a ton of water in the Carlisle area that would fish well and be less frustrating than the Letort. Michaux state forest streams can be tricky but there are a lot of brookies up there if you are dead set on catching them. Probably a half hour or less from the Letort heritage section. If you want I can send you a pm with some tips on where to look

Thank you! No reason for the hour drive other than on the map it showed Laurel Run as the closest wilderness stream so I figured there were probably brook trout there. I'll try sending you a PM. Thanks again.

Hello Wolfs Coming

If you do Laurel run do your scouting immensely because a lot of of the road you do not see Laurel run. You’re gonna have to pick and choose Spots and walk back in to the stream. Basically there’s nobody up there and it’s beautiful. I’ve been scouting that place for the past two weeks now.

If you do Letort there’s plenty of access at different sections of Carlisle, but you’re gonna have to be real stealthy when approaching the stream because it is nice and clear it’s majestic.

Dear WolfsComing,

Laurel Run fishes much better after a good rain. If you go to the Letort then Mountain Creek between the lakes in Pine Grove Furnace State Park can be a solid choice. It is stocked but it also has both wild brook and brown trout in it.
