Kishacoquillas Creek, Mifflin Co, 5/16-5/17, 2026

Looks like they stocked Browns in Honey Creek twice this year, so he probably moved down the stream at some point.

Do they not stock Browns in the Kish to protect the wild Brown population?
Unless those browns went underground and re-emerged from Alexander Caverns, that doesn't explain much. Those browns would be stocked way upstream. That part of Honey Creek is practically a whole different stream.

Just to clarify, this is IMPOSSIBLE. There is no "under ground tunnel." The streams sink, leaving behind a dry stream bed. The trout can't go into the underground stream and swim through the dirt and the rocks. As far as fish are concerned, the stream ends.

How does stocking browns help to protect the wild brown population? Are you implying they are relying on stocked browns successfully spawning to supplement the wild browns? I don't think the present wild fish population needs help from stockies...

Sorry I don't think I was clear, I was asking if they are avoiding stocking brown trout in the Kish to protect the wild browns that are currently in the creek.

I agree that they don't need to stock anything on top of the browns at that creek.

Having caught 1000s of state stocked browns that all looked the same, the stocked fish in this thread appears to be a bit “better” looking and potentially a club/privately stocked fish.

I couldn't agree more. This is from a private entity.

They have switched to all bows on the lower bald eagle, IDK, I think 8 years now, maybe more. I think the initial was to get a "clean" survey before designating it as wild trout. A couple of years later they changed the regs. First no harvest of any fish after Labor Day. Two years ago they added no-kill for browns. I think the same regs are on Kish. PFBC is moving in the right direction.

If I've never fished Kish before but wanted to give it a shot for half a day - what parking area/stretch would you all recommend? Don't care about stockers v wild

I was referencing Honey Creek which is a trib of Kish.
Well, kind of. As mentioned earlier, it is but it isn't. The stocked part of Honey is not really the same stream as the unstocked part of Honey that flows into Kish. There is no surface water connection between the two.

I was more making the point about there being brook trout in upper honey and that browns were stocked over them.

Fished the Kish twice this weekend as the streams in SCPA were a little too low for me to want to bother with them.

Saturday 5/16:

Weather was sunny to start the day and became overcast around 2:30 pm as a front began to move in. Lots of sz 16 black caddis were hatching, and while the trout weren't looking up for them, I caught several nymphing olive caddis pupae. Fishing slowed down when the front moved in. Not too many sulphurs hatching.

Best catch of the day weren't the fish, but the food and milkshakes at the Reedsville Creamery Ice Cream Stand. They have incredible smash burgers. I got the "Revival" burger, which had smoked cheddar, morel mushroom salt, a sauce kind of like big mac sauce with ramps and hatch green chilis in it, lettuce, and tomato. Highly recommend stopping by there when fishing the Kish. Be advised that it is not open on Sundays.

Sunday 5/17:

Totally different weather, same pattern of trout behavior. Fishing started off well like Saturday, with black caddis hatching and being caught on pupae, but around 3 pm, the water started to warm and the fishing noticeably slowed. I decided to hop from spot to spot to find cool water. At my last spot of the day, I hooked a massive fish that ran upstream for about three minutes, then dug under a rock and broke me off. I suspect it was a carp, my 3wt 10ft was powerless against that freight train with fins.
I like how your pics look like they are from the 70's or one of those slide show projectors.
Nicely done

It's not meant to get "caught up in." I pointed that out to understand the origin of the fish. Historically, the PFBC would stock browns in Kish, but to the best of my knowledge, this practice was terminated years ago. For the last several years of stocking, these browns were all placed below the Mill Street bridge.

Was it leftover from the big trout tournament? Did it migrate in from Coffee Run Trout Club? Is someone else privately dumping their own fish in? I'm just curious.
Its possible it came from the Coffee Run Trout Club. However those fish are generally bigger in my experience.

There are some nice wild fish in their water too.

Either way, its a beautiful holdover brown trout. Thats the type of stocked brown I never minded catching.
