Hoppers

I know in the last couple years, we discussed a decline in hoppers. I'm seeing a lot more this year on my runs along lower Middle Creek and Hammer Creek in Lancaster county. Not as many as some years, but way more than the last 2. Has anyone had much success with hoppers this year? The ones I see on the road are absolutely huge.

I’d say that there is a huge year class of hoppers in SE Pa this year.

I would've said with confidence that this is a poor hopper year in NY - until 3 days ago my backyard filled up with 1.5" green hoppers and black crickets. September is hopper season now, I guess.

In years past I've usually had plenty of hoppers in my yard beginning early to mid-August. This year I've finally seen my first couple this week.

I don't know if you can read anything into that. For years I've been lamenting the decline of lightning bugs in my yard. This year I had more than I have seen in the last ten years combined and they were here for 6 weeks or more, from late June to early August.

I agree on the lightning bugs. Noticed a lot more this summer. (Lancaster Co.) Can’t comment on hoppers.
