Thank you for your generosity. I plan to use them to help educate other fishermen the tradition and that the older flies still have what it takes and can still catch fish.

The flies have arrived !! Thanks again Norm. They are just beautiful! I felt very lucky my box contained my favorite fly The Alder. I use this fly in different sizes for everything from trout to salmon at Pulaski.

Received mine as well, much appreciated Norm. A few questions for those who've fish flies like these (since I haven't). What type of water and in what conditions do they work best? What's the best way to fish them?? Etc. Thanks again!

Primary Techniques

1. The Downstream Swing (Classic Method)
    • The Cast: Cast your flies across and downstream at roughly a 45-degree angle to the current. [1, 2]
    • The Mend: Immediately mend your fly line upstream so the flies sink beneath the surface film before the current catches the line. [1, 2]
    • The Drift & Swing: Follow the fly tip with your rod, keeping it low or high to maintain a direct, tight line. As the line sweeps downstream, the current will lift the flies toward the surface, mimicking an emerging insect. [1, 2]
    • The Dangle: Let the flies hang (dangle) directly downstream in the current for a few seconds at the end of the swing, as trout frequently strike right as the fly rises. [1, 2]

2. Upstream Dead Drift & Strip
    • The Cast: Cast directly upstream or upstream-and-across into a run or riffle. [1]
    • The Drift: Let the winged wet flies dead-drift naturally along the bottom just like a nymph, watching your line or leader for any sudden stops or twitches. [1, 2]
    • The Retrieve: As the flies drift back toward you, take up slack or impart a slow, subtle figure-eight retrieve to give the feather wings a lifelike pulse. [1]
