2026 Carpin’ thread

Congrats! That’s an awesome carp. You’ve had a really solid year of carpin’ and have certainly been the inspiration in the thread this year. My season was very sub par but I admit that the absence of any mulberries this year was an unmotivating factor for me. With October here now my focus has turned to bowhunting. I’m interested to see how late into the year you can continue be successful sticking carp on the fly.

I'm gonna keep going as long as I can! It's truly been the most fun fishing i've ever had. I'm gonna have to scout some mullberry trees for the spring.

That’s really cool! You definitely need to dial in the mulberry game for ‘27. You’ll have an absolute blast with that!

After a brutal week at work I needed to scratch the itch this morning. water temps were between 55 and then up to 60 on the Stoga - I landed 7. None massive, with the biggest at 30". The big ones seemed to be holding in the deeper water especially with the clear water and high sun. The trouser worm was the hot fly and the fish were moving for it. As it gets later into fall I've had trouble figuring out what the carp were eating. I manage to land 3 the week of oct 15 on a hybrid worm but it was tough going with several skunks. I've been after an absolute tank of a fish the last few weeks but it seems to have moved - probably due to the low clear water. I finally wore waders today and i'm glad I did as I had to send it down the bank several times and wade out a couple times to free the line from woody debris. As usual it was a blast!

Well the carping is still good - found a new honey hole and bagged 3 nice ones over the last few days. caught my first mirror carp too. 32" x 23" girth. The big common carp was 34" x 25" girth which should put it around 26-27lbs. last one was 31.5" I also broke of 2 other studs. There is a significantly larger uniquely golden carp hanging with them that never gave me a shot. I'll be back after it next week. I keep thinking about trout but the pull of the golden bones is too strong.
