Fished a Laurel Highlands stream today that I’ve drooled at on the maps for years, but all my “research” has always suggested the stream was no good, and every time my brain circled back to it, I always ended up deciding it wasn’t worth the 2-ish mile hike to legally access it. Has significant impoundments in both headwater branches that are rumored to be acidic and is in a general area not known for having great geology/buffering capacity.
The stream has been mentioned once or twice on here before, usually in the context of someone asking a question about it, or being curious about fishing it. Responses are rare, and the ones that are present are usually talking about the acidic quality of the lakes in the headwaters. (One of them is a good northern pike and LMB fishery, so how acidic can it be?)
Anyway, I fished it today. And imagine that, it’s good. Should have fished it 10 or 15 years ago probably. Not much in terms of size, but 25 Brookies in a couple hours of fishing = good enough in my book. Most spots that should have held a fish did. Can’t ask for much more than that.
