Where would you go if you were fishing tomorrow (Sept. 25)?

Have the opportunity to fish tomorrow morning until about 1 p.m. in the I-81 corridor, so I'm pondering Big Spring, Falling Springs, Antietam Creek, or maybe Green Spring (only one of the bunch where I've never fished).

If it were you, where would you squander one of your precious fishing days?

I would be particularly appreciative of advice from anyone whose fished the area in the past week or two.

I really wish I could say that Falling Spring would be your best option. but sadly it’s gone downhill very quickly. If you poke around near quarry road and try under all the bridges in the fly only, you should catch some small fish. It’s just depressing to look at though. Very low water and almost no weed growth compared to just a few years ago. Not to mention a massive housing development currently under construction.

I haven’t fished it in a little while but I’d say Big Spring would be your best bet. It’s fished well for me all year.

Very few wild fish in green spring anymore and it’s a pain in the *** to fish.

Sorry for getting so gloomy lol but I just can’t help it whenever Falling Spring gets mentioned. That’s my home water and it just pisses me off everytime I think about what’s happened to it

Very sorry to hear about Falling Springs. I used to love that creek, but haven't fished it regularly for many years.

I’m interested too in what this thread has to offer, I’ve only fished one of your choices, about 5 years ago, freestone streams elude me to believe if I do not see the fish that there is none in there. I’ve spent hours on a freestone with no strikes.

Antietam was at record low flow before the rain this week, it wouldn't be my first choice, but I am not very familiar with the other options you mentioned.

Hit big spring first, but I got there after the sun was on the water. Gin clear water and a bright, bluebird sky had the fish under cover. I did coax a brook trout out from under a log with a black and yellow maribou streamer, but I had a lot of slack in my cast so it got off in about 3 seconds.

After no action for an hour, I headed back towards Thurmont and stopped at east branch Antietam in Renfrew park. As sarce had foreseen, it was low. I ended up wading through the likely spots and didn’t see a trout, but I did spook some small chubs.

Finally saw a small trout among the chubs in the hole under the Buchanan highway bridge.

Lowest I have ever seen that creek.

Lesson learned: be ready to fish the limestoners at first light and pack it in when the sun hits the water.

Consolation prize: it was a beautiful morning to be on the water.
