They work well on the rivers out in Minnesota for smallies . I usually just fish the banks with them when the water is up .

Mottled turkey secondary quill. But for these I found a purpose for the fake "mottled" turkey I got in the 90s.

October Caddis in prep for some fall action. Fudged the hackle a bit on my whip finish.
Does anyone have tips on how to keep deer hair from spinning around the hook when tying in wings? I try to do the 2 loose wraps before cranking down method but still seem to have trouble keeping the hair on top of the shank. Any help?

Always hold the wing if applying downward pressure on your bobbin. If you let go of the wing whike applying pressure on the bobbin tge hair will rotate. If you let go of tge bobbin when you let go of the hair nithing happens. Here’s A video where Tim Flagler explains it at about 5:45 into the video.

You can mount the hair and do a crease wrap to put a indent in the hair then back off and tie it down.

If you aren’t already, putting a couple wraps angled through the butt ends (after the tight wraps at the tie in) can help bind the hair down. It is easier to tie in a smaller bunch than larger. For really big hair wings, a small drop of super glue at the tie in works too.
