First try ever at a winged wet fly. Been very inspired by Davie McPhail lately:

Also an over the top bass streamer. I enjoy tying these flies but have to say I haven’t really had much success actually catching fish with them 😂

My take in the ol Trusty Rusty.
Split microfibett tail.
Two shades of Coats and Clark thread abdomen.
EP and organza wing.
And foam over the top for visibility and a little floatation.

Surprises me you haven’t had success. That looks like an awesome fly for smallmouth, especially early spring. I may use your pic to try and tie some myself. Nice fly!

Thanks. Far and away my most successful unweighted swim fly has been the Murdich minnow. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong. I’m fairly new to the smallmouth game. Most of my smallmouth have been on slow and low stuff, crayfish patterns, big mop flies etc.

Man your work is incredible. Really enjoy seeing it. I don’t know if you saw my first attempt at a winged wet a few posts back. Any tips on those duck quill wings? Mine seem very stiff and don’t look anything like what you can produce. Is there a certain area of the feather you like to use?

Thanks for the information on material
Lack of suitable tying material is the main reason I've cut back on tying my old feather wing wet flies.
I use to buy at Hillie's but it's gone now.
