Ah, crap. I can't find your original post. I think I have that box I'll Have to look. Did you say you fish this size 12 all year or do you go smaller as the year goes on?

Thread 'Swinging wet flies'

For you guys who swing wet flies and soft hackles, what kind of line and leader do find most effective? What I mean is do you use floating, sinking tip, or sinking line.
How about the leader, nylon, fluorocarbon, or something like the versileader? Thank you.

I fish that fly for large trout in the fall, hence the large flies.

I have another very simple, but very effective wet fly pattern tied along the same lines also using SLF Prism Fibers that I’ve used on the Firehole River for the white miller (caddis) hatches. This is a smaller #16 or a #14, for smaller fish.😃

This is a beautiful fly.
The SLF dubbing in the photo led me to perform an inventory of my current supply of dubbing material. I have 5 boxes (5 X 12 = 60) plus another 26 individual packages for a total of 86. I have stated “I have all the materials I will need to last a lifetime with the exception of hooks”. I guess I was mistaken. I received a gift certificate to a local fly shop for Christmas; I will place this on my list. My wife is always intrigued with the $100 worth of supplies that conveniently fit in a small paper bag wen I return home from a trip to a fly shop.

A flurry of ties being posted lately. I wonder if the weather has something to do with this. I’ve largely been trying to tie on 20lb mono based on a pattern seen on a saltwater forum. Not having much luck but out of nothing but morbid curiosity I can’t wait to fish this in my local WW creek come spring/summer. I’m sure any fish that strikes this will also just be doing so out of morbid curiosity. Tied belly scratcher style so it rides hook point up. The tail being tied on mono has great movement so I’m curious to see what happens. Maybe carp, SMB or juvenile stripers would like it. Juvenile stripers like anything white.
