What Are You Tying Today? 2026

Size 14 Tan X Caddis

I’m exhausted and can’t sit at the desk anymore. Had the afternoon off and I tied a dozen each of 12, 14, and 16 in Elk Hair Caddis and X-Caddis in Tan and olive. Hopefully when not shoveling snow this weekend I can finish all the rest of my dry Caddis patters. Saving my favorite for last though - Henryville.

CDC Pheasant Trail. I have never once caught a trout on a pheasant tail based fly and I have been tying a lot recently. So hopefully these fish well.
Right there with you! Also never caught a trout on a pheasant based fly, though I haven’t really tried that many. Finally got my hands on some pheasant tail and have been enjoying tying with it

I tie them tips first and wrap them 2-3x around the hook. I’m not sure how to get more fibers though, first time ever working with CDC!
Here is a series of photos I took while tying a Pheasant Tail
CDC soft hackle. You can incorporate any kind of dubbing and cdc together in a split thread or dubbing loop technique and it produces a really buggy thorax/collar. It’s definitely worth playing around with and it’s a much more durable fly as well.

If I only had the patience to use clips.
