I have these types of magnets that work great for picking up hooks or flies, but you have to first locate them before you can pick them up. One of these Griffiths Gnats is on the end of the blue magnet, which is 4” long. The Fli Stik is retractable which is nice to use if you’re sitting at your tying desk and drop a hook or fly on the floor.

Are you just using the small feathers off the top of a neck for that hackle? It might seem like a dumb obvious question but they are all so consistant and I feel like that would be hard.
I have a couple Whiting grizzly necks that have lots of relatively long feathers with very narrow barbules at the top. In a pinch, I believe I might also be able to find some small size hackle at the tip ends of a few grizzly saddle feathers that I have.
That is a beautiful work of art. Will it actually get fished? What kind of time does one have in something like that?

Absolutely, these are bulletproof, starting with a mono foundation. Honestly I tie more than I fish, and many fly’s are donated to TU, FFI and other groups😎 The trimming on those bugs take up an hour . Construction is done in steps, I’ll tie up a handful hooks in mono foundation, super glue and let dry. Then I’ll do all the tails followed by hair work, so tough to say time but easily a couple of hours or more.
