We used to call nettles "burn hazel."

Probably the most common name is stinging nettles.

When I was a kid, we used to call it "itch weed"

And when we did get it, we'd look for another plant that always seemed to grow around it called Jewell weed.
It has a juicy red stalk at the bottom
And would squeeze some of that juice on the affected area, helping to soothe the itch

Back in the day, I had heard of Jewelweed supposedly helping to sooth the effects of "seven minute itch". It was also said to help prevent getting poison ivy. Might have just been an old wive's tale though.

The juice of jewelweed is very good to put on the skin to relieve irritation.

If youre looking for some Jewelweed, I believe I've seen it lining nearly every road near the last several streams I've fished. Right next to the Ivy

Do yourself a favor and throw a pack of these in your fishing vest, bag or pack.

Beside saving you the hassle of looking for jewelweed, its serves triple duty as a more effective way remove urushiol if you come in contact with poison ivy, a more effective & easier early-intervention wash after nettle contact and of course if nature calls... 😎

I never bother with nettle sting relief because almost 100% of the time I come in contact with nettle, it's on my legs through my wet wading pants and dropping trou to wash off or jewelweed off, ain't happenin'...

I just suck it up and/or look for cold water...

On the other hand, I have been carrying around soap in my fishing kits in the form of a small bottle of liquid soap or soap leaves forever because I am so allergic to poison ivy. Whenever I THINK or know I may have made contact on my bare skin, I walk to the creek if I'm not already standing in it and get out the soap leaves.

Technu is great too, but the wipes dry out over time and you almost need to to carry around a 4 oz. tube to get the same benefit as a few soap leaves. All I know is I have saved myself MANY bad cases of poison ivy just by carrying soap.
