Upgrade to a rotary vice

I am looking to upgrade to a rotary vice. Would like to keep the purchase price under $400. Currently, I have narrowed my choices down to two rotary vices.

#1 Renzetti Traveler 2200

#2 Peak Rotary

Prices are very similar

If you have knowledge about either of these rotary vices or if there is another vice I should consider, please let me know your thoughts.

I've been tying on a Griffin Odyssey Spider or something like that for a loooong time. It's a rotary vise around $150. I see no reason to ever have to upgrade, and I recommend the vise.

Either vise will last your lifetime and your child’s lifetime. Either one is a solid choice as are the griffins. You can spend more but there’s no good reason to.

Disregard. I see that the Peak is actually more expensive some places. It’s built like a tank, although I am having issues with a set of jaws sticking as of late (see recent post). In its defense, it’s close to 20yrs old and has tied thousands of flies. It has a lifetime warranty so I’m hoping they will replace the jaws for free, but I won’t complain if I have to spend 40? for new ones if need be. Like others said, you can’t go wrong either way

That's a colossal waste of money as just about any standard vise can handle that task. Do it because you want to add rotary winding techniques to your tying.

FWIW - No knock on the Peak because folks love them, but the issues Esoxbum is having with his Peak can't happen with a Renzetti.

I've never used either so I won't act like one is better than the other....BUT

I have heard that Peak's customer service is top notch, and when you're spending that kind of dough I think there's something to be said for a company that backs their product and helps makes your investment worthwhile.

I don't own any Peak products, but as the owner of a Renzetti Master, a Traveler, tools and a few custom machined items for my vises, I can attest to Renzetti's customer service as being top notch as well.

Check fb marketplace. New and barely used vises show up there regularly at steep discounts. I bought my NIB peak for $125 (two years ago)

FWIW, I have used the Peak rotary for over 20 years with no issues. Tie everything from Tricos to Musky flies.

Another vote for Renzetti. One thing I bought and never regretted it.

I have both. I love them both. However if you plan to travel with it get the Renzetti. There is a reason it's called the Traveler. Much lighter and easy to manage around my campsites. The Peak is a tank , as someone said earlier, and stays on the tying desk at home.

I have a Renzetti 4000 rotary and tied on that for 20 years. Added a Regal vise two years ago and another Regal (stainless & hook jaws) last year. I usually reach for the Regal, because it's just so easy to use and the hooks doesn't budge. If you are sold on rotary (good for you, I am not for most situations), I have found Renzetti to have excellent customer service when I have needed it.
