All it needs is the right percentage to pass - doesn’t make it right - but there are enough crazies to give it a better than average shot I’ll wager - but who cares as long as someone is getting attention and funding? - I’d worry more about Law Enforcement being tasked to carry out “justice” if this sort of thing ever passed all the hurdles - I think some of us may live to see the Orwellian measures enacted

I wish the State of Oregon (and a few others) only the best, and the enactment of legislation like this is a step in the right direction of my definition of the best...

I respectfully disagree. We are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights, which are succinctly enumerated in the Declaration of Independence as the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These are natural rights of all individuals, granted by God. I categorize the right to hunt and fish in the rights to liberty and the pursuit of happiness categories mentioned above. Not all that long ago, and maybe still, the right to hunt and fish could also have been categorized in the right to life because people need to be able to feed themselves in order to live.

A decision by a majority of the electorate, even if accomplished through a democratic process, does not supersede these rights granted to us by our Creator. The government is charged with guaranteeing and protecting our individual natural rights, but neither a government nor a majority of individuals has the right to take them away.

Just think of all the terrible things that could happen by a simple majority rule. Thankfully, the Constitution was put in place to guarantee the God-given rights of individuals, not to guarantee simple majority rule.

It’s not until the Bill of Rights that property is mentioned. If you take your proposition to its logical conclusion people would not be allowed to post their own property and each of us would be allowed to hunt and fish regardless of property ownership. Just sayin. BTW I consider banning hunting and fishing as a bridge too far.

"Property" was replaced with "Pursuit of happiness" by the founding fathers. I believe the primary reason was to be inclusive of all citizens. They (Jefferson ?) took Lockes' concept and adapted for a country that wasn't meant to be nobility centric. It was meant to be more encompassing rather than limiting of property ownership rights.

That's what I was taught, anyway.

There's a reason eastern Oregonians wish to secede ( Greater Idaho Movement) from the state. The traditional values ( hunting, fishing, farming) don't align with of the those on the heavier populated coast. Good luck to Oregon.

This is all a veiled effort to make Portland the rat capital of the country. They're already in the running. Eliminating pest control is a surefire path to victory.

It will be easy to replace the hunting and fishing dollars when the tourism department can run ads proclaiming Eugene the capital of homelessness and Portland "Rat City".

They'd become the west coast Baltimore.

Agree. I only point this out to illustrate the disparity between those who live in rural Oregon verses those who live on the coast. As someone who has fished tailwaters in eastern Oregon, I'd hate to this legislation pass.
