The rod you regret giving away

Whats the one rod you regret ever giving away, for me it's the older 7 ft 3 wt Cabela's made in USA and I had an old Ross reel made in England on it, gave it to a teenager who is now an avid fly rodder fisherman,so all is not lost,I was getting into streamers and catching bigger fish at the time,but now the native brookies are catching my attention and wish i still had it,

I "gave" a Sage 9' 5wt to the Australian post office. They were supposed to deliver it to my address here in PA but that didn't happen. I regret that.

I've only actually given rods to my kids. No regrets there.

The first and only rod I ever built is on a Cabela's PT 703 blank. It is a nice brookie rod.

A long time ago I gave away a J Kennedy Fisher 9' 7wt fly rod and an Abu-Garcia 678 fly reel and line that I bought at the Denver CO Sportsman's show in the Winter of 1983. That was back in the days when a 7wt was an all-around Western trout rod. It served me well in places where my 7 1/2' 5 weight would have been pretty useless.

It's not so much that I regret giving it away as I gave it to friend to help introduce him to fishing for smallmouth and largemouth bass. He liked it and used it a lot.

My regrets come from wishing I still had it, because I'm not 30 years old anymore, and I've revisited older glass and bamboo rods and find that I kind of like them.

Mine was an Orvis Tippet 7’6” 3 wt. I really miss that one.

Probably an old Cortland Leon Chandler. I think it was a 7'6" 4wt. Just remember how smooth it was. It was my first graphite rod and gave it away to get someone else started in the sport.

2 Shakespeare Wonder Rods when I was young. They were among the first fiberglass rods, and I wish I'd kept them, even though they were probably "war clubs."

Many years ago, I gave away a used fly rod that was gifted to me by a family member. Back then I hadn't gotten into fly fishing yet, so I didn't know any better. But, I do recall this rod was a 3 piece 8.5' split bamboo rod that came in a silk sleeve and a nice tube. It also had a second rod tip. I'm guessing a lighter tip?

Thinking more about it, the person who gave this rod to me was well to do, so it was probably a high end rod. I fear it may have been an expensive Leonard, but I'll never know.

Never regretted giving anything away. However, I did regret slamming the tailgate on my first fly rod ever, a White River 5 wt. Good news was it clean broke the top 6” off the tip which I was able to repair with a stent and some really bad looking thread wraps. Still have the rod, still use it and it still casts and catches fish just fine.

I "loaned" my very first fly rod to a friend to teach his kid and never got it back and we lost touch.

It was a custom one piece 5'0" 4wt graphite rod made on a grey Lamaglass blank built by Tom Forwood at Eyler's when they were in Ardmore. I even fabricated a rod sock & a grey PVC tube for the rod.

I still have the receipt for the rod & reel and I still have the reel I pared with it so I wasn't a total moron, but I love to have this rod back (if it still exists) for sentimental reasons...

Had he been a true friend, he would have made sure you got that rod back. I can count my true friends on one hand. As much as I hate to say that.
