Hey all, my dad has been talking about wanting to do a guided trip (boat or wade, but maybe slightly prefer boat) for smallies on the Susquehanna. Thinking about giving him an early birthday present.

Does anyone have any experience with guides they’d recommend? Appreciate any thoughts!

Where you want to fish on the Susquehanna might help your search for information.

Good point. Despite living only a couple hours away I’d say our knowledge of the river and where to fish is near zero. With that said I guess we always suspected it would be around the Harrisburg area, but I don’t think we’d mind going elsewhere for a trip with a reputable outfit.

I have used Reel River Adventures/Chris Gorsuch and his guys for many years. Jet boats. This rain helps, but they cease operation on the main stem in low water. Chris goes to the North Branch all summer.

Dear cjs,

Check your PM's on the message board. We have used the same guide for almost 12 trips over the past 3 years and always have a great time.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

Brian Shumaker is regarded as one of the best. He guides for us at Sky Blue Outfitters, but has his own outfitter called Susquehanna River Guides.

Mike Rosa at Stream Bred Anglers is another top option.

Both are probably fully booked, but wouldn't hurt to try.

As if the term "grateful" isn't seen enough in freshwater fly fishing...
