Steelhead/salmon two hand rod

Looking for a two hand rod for large fish.

Looking at an Echo King or a Redington Dually in a 9-10 weight. The echo was around $549 , Redington was about $350.

Wasn’t really looking to break the bank cause I would only use this rod for big char and salmon.

Wide open to suggestions. Just starting to look around.

What do you think are the keys to these rods?

I think the echo rod would be just fine for Pacific salmon.
A 9/10 wt. would be overkill for great lakes fishing and arctic char.
The Dually only goes up to 8wt.

Thanks. I got the idea for this rod to use on Tree River which is huge and rages. It’s not unusual to hook some 20 pound fish which I’ve heard are very strong fighters and rather have more muscle than not.

In trying to educate myself about some of these rods, I did watch some videos on them. Seems like the core handles in the weight where the biggest issues.

Assuming I’m successful on that trip I guess the only other times I would see myself using that rod would be some destination fishing out west for steelhead or Atlantic salmon. I gotta test some rods out.

Have you checked the used sites? Bears den, trident may save you some $$

I have a Batson 11' 8 wt blank I could build on for you. MRSP on the kit is around 400. I could complete similar build for that price or a little lower.

The 8 weight Batson is equivalent to a 5 weight spey rod.

The tfo deer creek switch is a good budget rod for your needs imo, pairs well with a cheap lamson. Beulah makes the nicer version of such things if you wanna get fancy. I love mine.

John , thanks for the offer. Seems lighter than I was looking for. I have a 9 foot 8 wt single hander and I think that it’s too light.

I did check eBay, trident and bears den nothing yet on there.

Do you have cork preferences?
