Spotted Lantern Flies?

Has anyone noticed fish eating them?

I have heard rumors of this, however, I was out on the Susquehanna River a couple weeks ago and they were numerous on the surface and I never saw a fish rise.

However, yesterday I gutted a stocked brown trout from Breeches and it had two lantern flies (winged adults) in its stomach. . . so at least some trout are eating them.

You’re probably right but I really didn’t care enough to be that accurate.

I've seen a similar thing with tent caterpillars, some fish just wont eat one...

Maybe the trout Dave caught ate one, thought, Good God that was awful, and had to confirm its findings? 😉

I’ve read that’s why most animals won’t eat them, but that as the bugs start to eat other plants, animals do start to eat them.

I said that once at the gym I belonged to in NYC...

A buddy of mine who is Chinese heard me and told me he was going to bring me something to eat the next day, something called a 1000 year old egg or a century egg.

The next night while a circle of my buddies laughed, he unwrapped the most disgusting looking hard boiled egg ever as I was wishing I didn't have such a big mouth.

I ate it...

It tasted like a spotted lanternfly. 😉
