That a group of musical followers who were all about standing up to corporate American and sticking it to the “man”, are now paying insanely high prices for dead branded equipment.

Oh that one left the train station back in 2020 and before.
It's like punk music, used to be anti establishment and trend are all about establishment and trend 🤣

Just listening to music and having a good time. Ask anyone who actually attended a show, or 20. They were among the friendliest people I'd met in my life, even to this day.

To my knowledge the Dead didn't really portray a lot of social messages outside of peace and love.

This couldn't be more accurate. You're spot on.
I really enjoy the Dead’s music, but for a band that allowed the free and open recoding of its live shows, and had very affordable ticket prices for most it’s existence, I don’t think the band or its fans would approve of spending $150+ extra just because a pair of waders has a 2x2 inch dancing bear logo on it.

Dead branded fly rod stuff started with Abel, a company that makes Simms looks reasonably priced in comparison.
It was ugly then, too.
Ah yes, the purveyors of the $320.00 fingernail clippers.

Dear wildtrout2,
I know a guy that has a body shop. I was going to have him strip the finish off a Pflueger 1494 frame and paint it red, white, and blue in spiral pattern. and put a little Stealie decal on the face of the spool and clearcoat everything. He did his girlfriend's reel in that pattern using different colors and it turned out really sharp looking.
He only wanted like $ 60.00 or $ 70.00 to do it 4 years ago but I figured I'd wait. I'm sure it's more expensive now though.

Yes it's all about the music, love and having a good time. Forget the drugs, community and anti establishment philosophy that flipped into establishment philosophy. Certainly none of that

How many Grateful Dead shows did you attend in your life? If you're able to answer that honestly.

I have been to 3.
All of them had political statements, it's even in the music. I was apart of that culture for half my life. It really isn't bs.
The Grateful Dead's relationship with politics was complex and often contradictory. While they didn't engage in traditional political endorsements or campaigning, their music and lifestyle choices resonated with countercultural and anti-establishment sentiments, making them inherently political within the context of the 1960s and 70s and more recently too.
The music is great. The reel and the waders are kinda dumb. let's be honest. This is what they are, that isn't necessarily bad, though they can often be contradictory.
