As stated in previous posts, river is still low, we arrived Monday afternoon to showers that didn’t help flow. Weather was very nice, 50’s and 60’s. Water temp. 52 flow 240cfs at pineville.
My son and I hooked a few steelhead and even some half alive salmon that just sat there when hooked by accident. None of the steelhead made it to the net unfortunately.
Quite a few guys up there this week, everyplace had a few fisherman here and there. The Ballpark up to the 81 hole was on fire for a couple days, some guys just stayed in their “honey hole” all day catching steelhead, we saw at least a dozen caught and release. Those guys did not move, sun up to sun down, ,,at 67 I could not stand that long in one spot….😩.
Tuesday afternoon tragedy struck as I was wading out of the river, with my wading staff folded up and in my belt(🤪😡), I slipped and fell, bad news broke my Sage 8wt fly rod that I’ve used since the 90’s.😡 sore left arm and elbow (Woodford helped at dinner) but more important the rod, the rod….
I’m using tungsten screw cleats in my wading boots, but they don’t give me the confidence the korkers do so I may have to rethink that deal.
First thing I did when I got home was call Sage, they told me to pack rod up and send it to them they will replace it, but with a four piece, which is great, but I’m old school and still love and use two piece fly rods, I still buy them used when I find them. Luckily I had just purchased a 9’ 8wt fly rod from a member on the forum here, so I was still able to fly fish.
Good luck to all who go, the steelhead are definitely in the river, I won’t go back now until April. Tight lines to all who are heading up there. 🎣👍
Almost forgot here is required photo…..
