Rod Repair

I have a 9’ 5wt Orvis Frequent Flyer (7pc) w/ a broken tip section. Looking for any advice/ideas/input on getting it fixed?, possibly having the tip section made, etc.
Have been looking on ebay for years to no avail…

How far down from the tip is it broken? Can you make it an 8'9" or an 8'6"? Might be a tad faster than it is now and feel a little different but still very fishable.

The alternative for a tip section is adding a stent made of carbon from an old rod or use a piece of spring steel as the stent and over wrap it.

A little surprised Orvis wouldn't help; but I guess that's how things roll anymore. Don't ask about how Weatherby treated one of my buddies. Was unbelievable. Roy is probably rolling in his grave. I will never buy a new arm from them.

If I remember correctly it’s like half way but splits in the graphite extend toward previous section (probably the farthest possible thing from a ‘clean’ break). My thinking was it’s too close to the previous guide to just put an eye on it, and I didn’t want to cut it back to the previous guide and have a hollow rod tip. I guess i can go w/ an eye and see how it casts? I’m just being lazy. I didn’t want to have buy calipers to measure diameter, etc. to acquire a filler rod. Wooden dowel? Someone out there somewhere has the same rod w/ a broken mid section….it’s only a matter of time…😂I’ll dig it out of its’ gravesite and snap a few glamour shots

It’s been out of production for years and not under warranty. I sent back a 24 yr old clearwater the same day that they replaced no questions asked. I never registered the rod either. They also gave me 30% off a new rod for the 7pc. I couldn’t have been happier w/ their customer service (unless, of course, they had an extra tip laying around).

It’s been out of production for years and not under warranty. I sent back a 24 yr old clearwater the same day that they replaced no questions asked. I never registered the rod either. They also gave me 30% off a new rod for the 7pc. I couldn’t have been happier w/ their customer service (unless, of course, they had an extra tip laying around).

And they replaced the gear in my battenkill bbsIII disc reel free of charge

I have zero complaints. Most people that complain never tell you the details on their end that resulted in a bad customer service experience. With that said, for them to replace a 24/25yr old rod that I never registered and sat broken in my garage for over 15 years and was coming up on the end of the 25yr warranty was AWESOME (and completely unexpected). All they had to do was say ‘your rod was never registered. I did have to drive to local Orvis store to drop it off which was like a 35 minute drive, but I only paid $60 for shipping as opposed to ?. I’m sure it would have been way more. They gained a customer for life

The only negative was that my rod wasn’t able to be repaired (or it was just easier for them to replace) and so they replaced it with the new model. The old one held a touch of sentimental value

Echoing others good experiences with Orvis. Just had my 9’ 5 weight recon repaired after top two sections broke and it was a fantastic experience. Friendly courteous phone conversation when I called to check on progress. They have a loyal customer here.

I broke the tip section of my Saint Croix 7' 3wt a few years ago, and they replaced it for just the cost of shipping. I think it was only like $25.

My second complaint was only that the lady I spoke to was trying to sell me anything and everything. She heard my dog bark and onto the dog beds we went. She was a str8 hustler

I was wrong. It broke between the 2nd and 3rd eye (5” b/w them, and it broke @ 2”). Clean brake as well. It’s been a while since I looked at it, but seems very fixable. Although a toothpick would be easier to find as a stent. Any special thread? I always see some on ebay (gudebrod I think). Clear coat/epoxy? If anyone knows a rod builder I think I’d rather send it to someone….
