Fishing a new stream in the Laurel Highlands (Whites Creek near Mt Davis) this fall I found a stretch with these signs on it. Both signs looked recently posted. Confusing for sure but I fished it anyway. Does anybody know what's up with this bullshit?

I always assumed (correctly I think, but verify yourself as you see fit), that if the landowner put up the Posted sign after the Fishing Permitted sign was already there, the landowner would likely take down the fishing sign if they didn’t intend to allow fishing on the property. If the Posted sign was there first, clearly the PFBC negotiated fishing access at some point, and the landowner wishes to allow fishing, but not other activities, so the Posted sign remains.

Either way, I believe those are fair game, and don’t fish a ton of those spots, but know a few. Know your property boundaries and the posting status of any neighboring properties, as it may change property to property.

There are a lot of these dual sign situations in Crawford, Venango and Warren Counties. Sometimes, they mean specifically no hunting but fishing is permitted. Other times the intent seems to be to allow fishing along a relatively narrow corridor surrounding the stream and to discourage general wandering on the property in question. In no situation that I am aware of are any of these dual conflicting message sign meant to forbid entry to fish.

It’s exceptionally clear and could not be clearer. So clear to me that a second thought about it would have never entered my mind. Fishermen welcome all others not. Fish away.
