We headed up to my friend's cabin in Ingleby early Sunday. We noted that Penns had gotten pounded with rain and was up above 1000CFS. We had not fished Elk Creek in a long time and stopped to check it out. We didn't see the posted signs we expected at a couple spots so we stopped and fished for a couple hours. My
buddy caught 4 and we missed a decent amount using streamers. Unfortunately, as we finished up, I noticed that my hook had broken off and who knows how long I had been fishing without it. I fished a black bugger and he fished with olive. It was an interesting stretch about a mile down from Millheim. The second picture show a section that we fished near the end. It was right along a dirt road with plenty of Amish farms. It was a huge pool with a small farmers bridge over it. We got a temp of a
62 at the end of the day.
I won't take you blow by blow through the days but between the 4 of us, we caught 40-50 trout. We caught a handful in the 15-16 inch range but many that were caught were small. I have never seen that many smaller browns in Penns. Penns was pretty muddy and blown out when we started, but each day it cleared more and was very fishable by the end. It was a beautiful weekend. No deer, bear, or turkeys, but an eagle set up shop in the dead tree right by his cabin. Most fish were caught on buggers or euronymphing. (not me) There were a few rises on Tuesday afternoon. There were a decent number of brownish caddis and a small grayish/white spinner that day. We each caught 1 on a dry. Temps were in the lower 60s. Can't wait to get back on Columbus weekend at Poe Paddy. Here are a few pics from our trip,
