I've been a Wheatley fly box fan going all the way back to day one. WHEN I have a need, I buy direct so I get marketing updates.

I got the following today via email and unless there is something similar I am unfamiliar with, I think the Dorsal Fly Wallet is pretty ingenious and a great option for cold weather fishing:

You would be AMAZED at what fishing gadgets I have fabricated with Codura & Velcro (and magnets) on MY sewing machine. 😉

BTW - If you go the fabrication route and need a source for magnets, look no further than K&J Magnetics in Pipersville, PA. I've been buying from them for years and if they don't have it, nobody does...

I'm trying, but really struggling, to see the utility of this.

While it's negative effect may not colossal, having something wrapped around my hand is not going to positively impact my fishing experience. It's bad enough when I have to wear gloves.

I feel that it would be better on the wrist/forearm but I think I'd still stick with chest or hat locations for fly patches.

I have a bunch of full dress salmon flies that I bought at the Hardy store in London a number of years back. They’d look nice in that wallet.

The thing is, I also bought 2 Hardy lightweight reels at the same time for just about what that wallet costs today.

Somewhere, I also have a picture of me fishing in England wearing knee high Wellies, a Barbour hat and vest, and holding a large Brown trout. (I can’t remember how large. Maybe 6-8#). That wallet would have come in handy at the time as I think I was keeping my trout flies (given to me by my British friend) in a small cardboard box. 😃

Just out of curiosity? Where did you fish in the uk ? I Was reading about " chalk streams " recently and I find it interesting that we don't really have them in North America or very very few .

I was down in the vicinity of Winchester, England where the Test and Itchen are located, possibly England’s best chalk streams, which are actually pretty much the same as our limestone streams, and exceptionally well cared for.

I didn’t fish them because it’s very difficult to get on them to fish (very private and very expensive) but I did fish another place nearby that my friend had a membership on. One time, I think it was in May, I spent a weekend in Winchester and spent an afternoon driving along the Test and Itchen, and stopped just about every place a bridge crossed the river. Lots of mayflies were hatching and on the water, and large trout were rising everywhere. You would think you had died and gone to heaven if you would have been able to be fish there then.

I was there last winter and considered a day on a grayling beat but decided against it in the end. Once I get all my kids through college, I'll probably make it happen.

I stood over Frank Sawyer's stream on Boxing Day before the hunt. There was definitely a strong urge to fish it but had to settle for the spectacle of horses and hounds instead. Whether fly fishing or not hunting foxes, the sporting lifestyle is pricey in England.

That's amazing I'm in the middle of "keeper of the stream" after attending the Mt_fly mobile book fair 🙂. Sawyer writes with soul and simplicity and Lee wolf killed it on the introduction. Amazing pictures thank you for sharing them .

I’ve never had an urge to keep flies velcroed to my hand. Why? I’d rather keep the 48 bucks.

Speaking of looking goofy, I made a gadget that straps to my non casting hand wrist that appears to the uninitiated to be a wristwatch.

Utilizing a magnetic attachment set-up, I can swap out several different snap lid containers to this "wristwatch" that contain different types of bait I use when not fly-fishing.

It may look goofy, but that position for a bait container is convenient as heck and beats constantly reaching down, over or into a pocket or pouch constantly...

I'll make one for anyone who is interested for $148.00. 😉

I think lashing bait containers to one's self should be mandatory as I have picked up hundreds of empty cans of corn and blue worm 🪱 containers over the years ....
