Several major brand loyalty laws were blatantly violated in the preparation process for this excursion … one thing is certain - I will probably use the words “Rio fly lines” and “never” in the same sentence until this sorry excuse (photo 2) for line packaging is replaced

Yes! That's the exact same sorry packaging issue I encountered with the last Rio line I bought. For what they charge for line, you'd think they'd have a better way of doing things.

They didn't put a hole in the center of the box to spindle and wind out ?

So I will say, this was done in the name of recyclability, which isn’t a bad thing, but it certainly compromises what we all are used to having our new lines spooled on.

Having said all of that, most of us will probably be happy to hear that Rio is in the process of going back to the norm or something much closer to it than some lightweight paperboard.

It just annoys me that we pay inflated prices for “environmental optics” when Farbank (parent company) changed what was a decent recyclable system to one that appeared to be “more green” on an already mediocre product line - I have a few Rio products that are okay performers but don’t have the longevity of Cortland or some of the true vintage SA (before Orvis bought them) lines I still fish every season - I only bought these particular lines because they were available - only to find out their packaging is silly and not functional for changing out lines easily

JG, I would love to chat sometime about the process of finding a spot and booking guides etc. Trying to plan a trip to Belize myself for sometime in April!
