Yesterday, just a big jigged PT, size 8 worked, as well as a size 10 stonefly. I add an extra tungsten bead instead of shot on places like the LR and Brodhead if I have to use smaller bugs.
Ok I’ve been using big march brown nymphs so I’m in the ball park. Missed a biggin a week or so ago. My drift was down stream of me so I think my hook set suffered.
You are in the game. Big fish get off in big water, especially if they get downstream. You know where he lives now 👍
Ain't that the truth... I lost two dandies this weekend just outside of netting distance due to freezing up from excitement and not getting downstream of them. The next one I was prepared, and did the downstream dance til landed him. Then immediately lost my footing and took a seat in the drink. Kept him in the net though, somehow lol. Good times
Yea he lives about an 1.5 hour drive and 40 minute walk away. He’s safe from me lol. He was on the seam of a big eddy after some rapids. About 4-5 feet deep. My game tends to fall apart when I have to drift slow and deep. I have issues of using shot above my fly. It always appears to sink faster than my fly. I’ve been toying around with spacing out smaller shot but I really think I should try drop shotting a single fly.

Maybe you are thinking of previous years. Last year everything was high and I was guiding almost into July, with the water being cool and high for so long.
Plenty of water well into June last year, almost too much to wade at times.
Olives and March browns. However, topwater action is hit or miss. Picking up clients here in a few, can let you know if anything happens for the evening.
Some tan caddis and maybe a MB here or there. We had good success dry dropping a Klink MB. No risers seen, except the ones we teased up. Boated 6 and lost another 6 on the dry. Spoke to two other guides who did full day floats. Not a rise all day. Water was 57.2 at 7pm.
This weekend was a cluster f@$&& with that dumb contest. I stayed off the river. Also, if anyone ever needs a shuttle, my son does it.
