Got my raft out today after a few weeks of not having time too and it was a beautiful fall day on the river. Tons of color on the mountain! We floated from lehighton to the gap and fished streamers the whole time.
-weather: sunny/bluebird skies, 55-60°
-stream conditions: 54°, 1000cfs, slightly colored
-bugs seen: blue winged olives, slate drakes, tan caddis
-flies used: olive wooly sculpin, yellow zoo cougar, olive/black mini dungeon
Put the raft in at Dunbars right around noon with sunny skies and little to no wind. We began fishing along the banks and in soft pockets where it seemed like fish could be holding. Not long into the float I caught a white sucker on the olive wooly sculpin, to much surprise. Continued to fish along the banks and things went quiet for a little bit, until my buddy moved a fish in the middle of the river. Continued down river and not long after my buddy hooked into a nice colored up brown on the wooly sculpin. This was his first trout on a streamer, and came on a fly I had tied earlier this weekend so that was really cool to see. He ended up catching another nice fish on the same fly. Olive seemed to be the color they wanted today as we tried black, yellow and white as well with little success. Another surprise came when he caught a 10” yellow perch. Later on in the float I caught a nice ~17” rainbow that had some awesome colors. Most of the fish came while stripping the fly. Not a huge numbers day, but it was an awesome day to be out with a few great buddies and some awesome fall foliage to take in. Some of his browns pictured.
