Korkers boot question

Hey all my trip to the laurel highlands is coming up quickly. I will be there on the 13th of this month. Im getting ready to order a new pair of korkers before heading over. What kind of water temperatures will i see? Can I get away with the light weight green backs or should I go up to a little heavier pair like the maybe the devils canyon boots?

Looking at the extended forecast I’d guess lower 50s around that time. As far as boots I’d think whatever is most comfortable with the heaviest wool sock you’d wear would be the way to go. Not sure how much the boot itself keeps you warm. Fwiw I live in the area and use a mid weight wool sock for 3 seasons except summer and never had an issue with cold feet.

You’ll probably be out of the water enough untangling flies and your leader from trees and brush that your feet will never have a chance to get cold lol. I curse more in the Laurel Highlands than anywhere else in the state.

And watch out for ticks. I’ve picked several off this spring. Good luck and have fun👍

I've never thought much about wading boots and temperature.

I will say that I went from Korkers Buckskins to Devils Canyons. The Buckskins lasted a reasonable amount of time but the Devils Canyons have had an exceptional lifespan.

My sons and I each wear the Korkers Dark Horse model and really like them. Two of us fish pretty regularly and they have held up well. We wear them in all temperatures and have never given a thought as to water temperature.

The biggest thing is to not buy them too small, such that they cut off circulation to your feet. Think like ski boots. For Korkers, I’ve found that buying one full size larger than my street shoe size is dialed in, for me. (I tend to wear a mid weight sock with my waders, FWIW.)

I wear an 11 shoe so I was going to order a 12. This should allow room for waders with a wool sock right?

Yes. I’m an 11, and yes, I order 12’s in Korkers.

I think it comes down to how much you will use them. The Devils Canyon may last longer if you use them a lot. I do not think there is any difference in them around warmth, since your wader and socks handle that.

I have owned the Devils Canyon, Dark Horse and now the Chrome Lite. If you don't need the interchanging sole the chrome lites are very comfortable. Time will tell on durability. I see you already bought the devils canyon. They were great boots for me. Lasted 6+ years of heavy fishing and they were a nice in-between, between the Lites and the Dark Horse, as far as bulkiness goes.

I am thinking of trying the Kroger stealth for those areas that I fish where wading is not an issue but walking in is. Think blue lines.

I have a pair of Patagonia Foot Tractors with aluminum cleats, for heavy duty wading duties. Very heavy when wet at the end of the day trudge back to the car.

Also bought a pair of Sitka felt boots this year for streams where felt is appropriate.

I had an older pair of Korkers with the interchangeable soles. While I generally liked them, and appreciated the flexibility of being able to change the soles. However, in muddy and boggy stream banks (like the Letort), where you can sink in the muck up to your knee, I had the interchangeable soles get sucked off in the slime.
