Getting back into fly fishing and need some help!

Long story short, life took over and I regrettably sold most of my fly-fishing gear several years ago. I'm looking to get back into fly fishing now and am looking for some advice on a nice setup for trout. The good thing is I have the means to get some nicer gear this time around but Ive been out of fishing far too long to know what is considered good these days. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been fishing a glass rod for trout. Been working great for them.

I’m a big fan of orvis stuff due to quality and customer service.

Regardless I’d recommend going to a local fly shop and test a few items out (and if you do that it would be good to buy from them instead of leaving and buying on the internet). Also think about where you want to fish - maybe a 9’ 4wt is good for you or maybe you want a shorter 3wt… all depends on what you want, and a good shop can help you with that too. Have fun!

Buy the “vintage” type gear you learned on all those years ago and pick up where you left off - you’ll save money and be familiar with some old favorites - many of the modern rods (expensive and affordable) are made in the same factories and are heavy and overly stiff because “fast action” sells… there are lots of vintage Fenwick HMG, REC built LL Bean, St. Croix built Cortland, USA built Loomis, and Sage for $150-300 on eBay - Reels are widely available too - English built Orvis, SA System 2, Japanese built SA System 1,Marryat, LL Bean, American Pflueger Medalist etc etc . You can get some premium “vintage” performance gear for a fraction of the price of some of the current gear - works just as well - especially if you owned one back in the day and miss it -
