Flying with Floatant

Can you fly on an airline with any type of floatant/leader grease? I’m assuming no, but if anyone can enlighten me I’d appreciate it. Specifically fly dip powder, aquel, lochsa, payette paste….Was thinking maybe the paste would be ok?

You mean carry on, or checked? I’ve definitely checked it before. (Have no clue if you’re not allowed to check it, but I don’t see why you wouldn’t.)

Either. Although I was assuming that if it were permitted, it would be in a checked bag

Now I know where to stash my contraband (illicit substances)😂

How much floatant do you require? Less than 3 oz. of anything is pretty much ok.

I can't agree there. There are no replacements for a good traditional wulff or parachute with dubbing body.

Foam is for warm water and terrestrials.

I would not be worried about any of it.
Number one rule of taking things in carry-on: Don't draw attention to it.
The security people see all manner of small bottles and containers go through their xray machine, they don't care what's in there so don't go asking them if it's ok to have "High & Dry" or "Flyagra" in your carry on.

They were very suspicious of my tungsten putty on my way back from Canada a few years ago. The gink and frog's fanny weren't a problem.

I got an extra scan in Denver this year because I had a pack of wipes in my bag. I had plenty of liquid flotant and powder in the same bag and it did not get the extra swab test.

I checked my entire sling pack inside my suitcase when I went to Wyoming last year. No issues.

However, I put floatant, sunscreen and other greasy stuff in a zip lock bag or a small waterproof bag. Can contain a mess if something leaks in transit.

Yeah I had a whole bottle of aquel leak out in the trunk of my car this spring. Luckily a hoodie soaked it up. That s*it does not come out. Ever

Always a good idea to bag anything that contains liquid or gel, whether it's in carry-on or checked bags. Sealed containers will collapse or expand with the pressure changes.

That may or not be lucky. There are definitely hoodies out there that cost more than some of the cars I have owned. I'm not talking Gucci and Prada, either. I'm looking at you Arc'teryx. The rest of the herd isn't far off. It's like you're not even in the game if you don't offer a $300-500 hoodie to your outdoor lifestyle customers.

i have flown with it many, many times. TSA does not care about much beyond bombs and guns. Just keep it under their liquid limit.
