Fly line backing attachment for freshwater use

I fold the “attach line here” end over to form a loop, then tie a nail knot with 12# Maxima - tie a six inch double surgeons loop in your backing and join the loops (leave your line on the factory type spool when joining loops) - this method has never failed me for the last 35+ years of using it. It also speeds the process of changing out lines when needed.

I've been using the same loop-to-loop method, but with welded loops since they first appeared 25+ years ago.

It is particularly handy for easy reversals on the DT lines I use most often for trout.

Hmm - had the same thing happen with Rio’s “thin” line in a DT4F - well for the purpose of the rod I’m going to use (small stream small streamer stick) a little neutral buoyancy in the line tip won’t hurt in too much - guess we’ll see - thanks for the heads up

A Grey Wolf 6’9” 5 weight “Bully” - it’s an S glass translucent white blank - 3 piece - gonna be my small stream streamer stick - shorter length = better lifting power - it’s smooth and has much more backbone than expected! Can’t wait to show some snooty CV limestone Browns some medium size meat flies with it! It oughta be a hoot for farm pond LMB (and big Bluegills) with medium poppers too!

The second advantage is it doesn't have the extremely long front taper. I think it's 8' instead of 12'. I forgot abotu that one.
