Fluorescent Orange Reqmts

We can't always trust a Google AI overview, but......maybe fishermen don't have to wear orange. Let me do some more digging.

Because I am an avid hunter, and I spend many, many days hunting in PA throughout the year, and I have pretty much never once seen anyone hunting small game anywhere even remotely close to a stream that I would fish. If we are talking about rifle deer season, then hell yeah, stay out of the woods. Don't even fish. Fishing then is just plain stupid. But for the spring turkey season and for general seasons when small game is in, I see hardly any potential of being shot or injured while fishing by a hunter. There are just hardly any small game hunters out there anymore. I am not saying that wearing orange is a bad idea. It is a very smart idea to wear orange during any and all hunting seasons, but I think if the angler is willing to take the risk, which I perceive as extremely low, let them have at it. After all, how many fishermen have been shot by hunters in the last 100 years? And, it is only on game lands, which leaves all state forests out from under the ruling.
I agree

We went for a walk on some trails on county conservancy land yesterday. The Conservancy allows archery hunting on some of its properties, this being one of them. I've thought about hunting it but the trail system doesn't leave a lot of room to get away from people.

We encountered an archery hunter walking in who felt the need to tell us that the PGC made a new rule requiring us to wear orange hats. I said, "I know, but this isn't game lands". He replied that it was. It is not and I said as much.

He then stated that it is conservancy land but it is run by the Game Commission. I said, "no, it's not" and walked away.

He must must get his information from crappy news stories.

What about state forests where hunting is permitted? Bald eagle state forest comes right up to penns creek
Dear Encoded,

Apparently, the rule only applies to SGL's. State Forests and State Parks where hunting is allowed are not part of the law.

That said, an orange hat would be a good idea in most places.

Tim Murphy 🙂
