I fished the west branch of the Brandywine yesterday. Water was running high and fast and still off color so I decided to try a chartreuse clawdad #4 with medium dumbbell eyes. I was fishing for smallies and it was the heaviest fly I had to get down through the current and caught an 18 inch rainbow. I am liking this pattern more and more everytime I fish it and still surprised that a pattern that looks like a cartoon crayfish more than a real crayfish can be such a fish magnet. I originally tied some up for bigger water like susky and conestoga but I have only been able to fish them in the Brandywine so far due to high and muddy water conditions. Can’t wait for the water levels to drop down to safe wading conditions and try them on some bigger fish.
