The largest brookie I've caught in a freestone stream was in a hole under a fallen tree where 3 fellow anglers witnessed it as it was getting dark. The brookie was roughly 14 inches. The largest I've caught in PA was 15 inches in a limestone stream that only has wild brookies in it. Otherwise all the biggest brookies I've caught have been in SE PA in wild brookie streams. All were in fairly deep holes. The best brookies have been witnessed. All but one was a a woolly bugger.
