Given the current conditions in Pa, what is the best species to target this weekend for a trophy fish, musky, browns, or smallies?
I carped all summer so I'm good on thatCarp
Yeah I want a big brown trout in a streamer but I feel like flows are too low where I’m at. Haven’t gotten into the Muskie game yet but I know I’ll get there eventually. Smallies are prob your best shotI carped all summer so I'm good on that
Brown I would also suggest NY or Erie. Muskie would be rivers or a creek they swim up. Easy to get them when they get stuck by dams. What I want is a big musky, smallie, or brown on a streamer. Lake, river, or stream, on the water or on the bank or wade fishing
Yep mee tooDepending on the stream and the region, of course, you may have missed the window on the mature brown trouts. They were looking real spawny a couple weeks ago when I got into a couple good ones.
Yep. The big boys are on redds right now at least in central pa. I saw many redds pop up this week and as expected I stopped catching big fish out of the deeper stuff. I know spots where they are done spawning and others where they won’t be spawning for a few weeks still, but for the majority of places they are on redds or just about to be right nowDepending on the stream and the region, of course, you may have missed the window on the mature brown trouts. I was considering making the 3 hour drive to erie, it is possible to catch a lake run brown in some of those tribs (from what I've heard not likely). Someone suggested lake America tribs, I'd love that but to make that drive I need more than 2 day to fishIts far for you, but WI/MI lake run browns coming out of the Great Lakes are no joke. I have yet to score on my own but have seen some of the monsters those guys hook into. I will probably break down and hire a guide for a couple of trips. It helps so much with that learning curve. There are guides who know where the big fish are, and how to catch them. To me, that is knowledge and training worth paying for.

You can still fish lower down on the rivers and in large water to avoid most of the spawners and have some chances but it’s not gonna be as good as it was a few weeks agoI should have gave more details. Can go for smallies/musky on upper potomac, brown/rainbow north branch potomac, savage is 57-58 degrees(wonder if they are on reds) 2 smaller rivers with musky, musky at a certain lake, i guess Central PA is no longer a good option(thanks mikey2006 for info)

I was talking about the central Pa rivers. I don’t know about the savageI would have thought the savage was a delayed spawn given tailwater/higher temps?
