Best shot at a trophy

Given the current conditions in Pa, what is the best species to target this weekend for a trophy fish, musky, browns, or smallies?

Think it’s all on what you want. Pretty much all species are active until water temps drop more. Not fly fishing but just got my pb catfish. Seen some big bass still hanging around shore. Muskie are hitting. Can get them trophy trout in Erie right now. Big panfish are out there.

I know you said PA, but in terms of trophy hunting, a trip up to any of the Lake Ontario tribs for lake run browns is always worth a shot this time of year.

Yeah I want a big brown trout in a streamer but I feel like flows are too low where I’m at. Haven’t gotten into the Muskie game yet but I know I’ll get there eventually. Smallies are prob your best shot

Brown I would also suggest NY or Erie. Muskie would be rivers or a creek they swim up. Easy to get them when they get stuck by dams.

Big bass I usually get in the spring.

Depending on the stream and the region, of course, you may have missed the window on the mature brown trouts. They were looking real spawny a couple weeks ago when I got into a couple good ones.

Yep. The big boys are on redds right now at least in central pa. I saw many redds pop up this week and as expected I stopped catching big fish out of the deeper stuff. I know spots where they are done spawning and others where they won’t be spawning for a few weeks still, but for the majority of places they are on redds or just about to be right now
