From my experience as a consumer, and my spouse's experience with a small business, it appears that basic marketing involves offering three levels of quality/affordability. The best sellers for any product or service that is offered at these three levels are almost always at the middle level.

Love my old school two piece rods, Orvis, Sage and Berkley. Before you laugh at my two piece 5wt 9’ Berkley Expert this was our back up fly rod for our steelhead trips. On one of those trips my Sage 8wt got closed in the tailgate……that backup Berkley 5wt handled a couple nice steelhead and one large brown trout on Salmon River.

I still take that Berkley with us as a back up. I miss that these manufacturers don’t produce two piece rods anymore. So I am stuck purchasing used two piece rods on fleabay…as I need them.

Actually have a bid in now on a nice two piece Orvis 9’ rod. Monday I’ll see if I win it…

I hear the one piece 10’ Hardy Zenith 4 weight is awesome. I have the four piece 5 weight, but have never been able to track the one piece 4 weight down.
