Allenberry Resort To Host Discussion on Yellow Breeches & Stream Bred Trout

I've said it before many times...

I never fished the Run as a destination, but it was a FUN place to kill a few hours when I was in the area and either didn't feel like getting suited up or serious and going elsewhere.

It was a also a great "in-between" spot when I was fishing morning & evening "sessions" at the Letort or when it was freezing cold and fishing was the last thing on most folk's minds. It was always nice to know I could hop over to the Run, have a beer or two and a cigar and catch a few fish with a Tenkara rod before going out to dinner at a local restaurant.

It also provided a short session opportunity during weekends when other activities left little time to fish and it was a great Aberdeen Proving Ground for new flies. For example, I field tested and I caught a duck there on my newly created "French Fry Fly." 😉

For those reasons to me, it is a damn shame everything got screwed up at the Run. I'll really miss the fun I had there during my lifetime of fishing Southcentral PA.
Hey Bam

Sometime you hit the Letort swing into Carlisle for a George’s sub or the Hamilton Restaurant for a Hot Chee hot dog and gravy fries its yum yum

It may be before your time, but at one time there was a sub shop on 4th Street (or maybe it was 3rd Street?) between Front & Walnut in Boiling Springs. Maybe not as good as George's or the Hamilton, but it sure was convenient for lunch in those days when killing time at the Run between Letort "sessions.

I'd head over, grab a sandwich, park by the RR tracks at Mountain Road, eat lunch and tie flies while watching trains. After a while I'd take a nap, hit the Run for an hour and head back to the Letort and fish at least until 10:00 pm, then go out to eat.

In those days, about the only restaurant in town that would serve anything on the menu that late was called the "St. Charles Restaurant" on Pitt Street located where Cafe Bruges is today. You could walk in at close to 11:00 pm, order a steak dinner and they would make it for you like it was 5:00 pm... 👍

I guess it is somewhat coincidental that my favorite restaurant in town today is Cafe Bruges.

Good days & fun times!!

That sounds like one hell of a day, let me guess the year was 1988.

Oregon,
Sadly, the Little Lehigh no longer has the wild brown trout population that you may be recalling in Section 07upstream from the Heritage Area. I doubt that the Heritage stretch, Section 08, which wasn’t surveyed recently, has escaped this change. I never surveyed the Breeches or even saw the A-berry stretch.
+ 1 Little Lehigh is no longer a good example, more an analogue to what happens when a cold creek silts up and widens from development in the area.
